Meet ARIA

WOW… I didn’t realize its been over a year since my last blog.
Meet Aria ! This is my 16 month old daughter. She looks exactly like her daddy when he was a baby but even more so like her Grandma Susan. People always tend to say the daughter usually looks more like the dad. In this case it came to be so true.

I never knew how amazing having a child would be till I became a mom. It really does open up your eyes to a world you never even knew existed. Everyday I am so excited to spend watch her learn new milestones.
I have so much more to write but Its currently 8/19/2020 - 3:12am so I better get some rest eye . Will defiantly be starting to write a lot more on here.

Thanks so much for coming back @alyeonsk13 What a huge transformation ,Creating beautiful hair may seem easy but there is so much more to it ! We chopped off over 12 inches of hair today and created a beautiful ombre , even im so jealous !!! I did Back to back foils on this Beauty which took a whooping 5 hours . I have been coloring Jen's hair for a number of years (although the previous grown out ombre was created by another stylist when I had taken some time off for my wedding/honeymoon). I have tried to many times to take a good picture of Jen's hair through the year but the pictures just never did it for me.
                    Thank god I now have my iPhone 7plus and it captures the hair color so much better than any previous iPhone/Samsung/Camera I used . I highly recommend the IPhone 7plus for any stylist . I LOVE the " Portrait mode" where it blurs out the background and focuses on the object!
             Today I did Back to back weave and slices all over Jen's whole head.  For Toner I decided to use Redken Shades E Q .Jen and I both were super happy with the result !! YAY for us !!
            I like to use a variety of different color lines, depending on my mood and what my client's desire shade is. Sometimes I use Schwarzkopf, Matrix, Redken, Wella, and Paul Mitchel .Like I said, It really depends what color I am going for and what kind of chemistry I decide to mix in my lab . BahhahaI work like a mad scientist-literally.
              I am in love with creating fun colors ,quick before and after videos lately if you haven't already noticed from my previous post on instagram=) . It takes quite a bit of time but I am lucky that all my clients have been so patient with me.

My best friend Kim had dyed her hair back to a natural black  2 years ago to prepare for her big wedding date ! Now that her wedding is over she wanted to do something different Or I should say extremely different ,PINK HAIR ! 

     She had told her husband she was getting pink hair but he literally thought she was joking . To his surprise he loves it on her ! Win win for us all !!!  

    I teased and lightened  with ultra bond every strand of hair than I toned her hair with  the swarscroff "candy" but I wanted to add a bit more pink to it so I also added some joico intensity "pink" and left it in for a good 30mins and wah laaa !!! As simple as the steps sounds I wish it were ! It took us 5 hours to achieve this beautiful color .

PROBLEM : Karen began getting grey hair at a young age, she has been dying her hair black for a number of years to cover those grey strands.

DREAM:She has always dreamed of wanting bright vibrant colors in her hair but due to the amount of grey that she deals with, she couldn't maintain the up keep of highlights/ombre.

SOLUTION: Together, we decided to color a portion of her nape area with a beautiful blended vibrant tone. while, I left out a good portion at the top black. This way it would make it easy for her to redo her black roots each month on the top portion of her head.

PROCESS: I knew the process was not going to be a easy one right from the start. I always warn clients never to dye their hair dark shades unless they are 100% sure that is the color they want to stick with. The dark dyes tend to stain the hair very harsh, so when us hairdresser lift out that under color. All that yucky RED/ ORANGE hair will present itself.
                I started off by sectioning the area I wanted to work with from there I foiled 1 inch from the roots of the hair to the ends. I applied on/off scalp goldwell lightenerand reapplied when needed. Because she had previously box dyed the color , the orange in her hair was quite stubborn.

Karen's hair took me a total of 5 hours including 4 lightening process and a whole lot of ultra bond to keep the hair strong ( Ultra Bond is amazing if you haven't tried it before, itgives extra protection from harmful chemicals) Mind you, I would not of taken the chance to bleach Karen's hair out four times if her hair had showed signs of porosity after the first,second,third,fourth stage of the bleach out AND of course if I didn't have Ultrabond But surprisingly she had no breakage and her hair remained strong.
                                   I used Matrix extra  grey coverage for the top and Joico intensity colors forombre.
                  I never tend to  promise results becauseyou never know how each person reacts different to chemicals. I'd much rather the client have low expectations than be upset when her hair isn't able to achieve the color at that moment.  Depending on thickness, thinness, porosity,history.  It all plays a huge part , especially if the hair has been box dyed, or dyed dark. Thats a whole new blog post that I will get more into detail on that topic in another blog. 

Bring out that creativity

Lately I have been feeling a urge to bring out my creative side. Practice makes perfect right ?! 💁🏻 It's amazing what your hands can do . I mean I haven't practiced a corn roll in literally 5 years and some how with a little practice my hands seemed to remember !!! I'm not pro at it yet but hopefully one day . 
                    We tend to take advantage of the things we have even as simple as our eyes, ear, nose, hands,etc.

SO excited for our new HP computer ! So much more convient Having a computer at home ,especially working on websites and such . Technology has come such a long way. I mean back in the day we would have to dial up and make sure the phone lines were clear to even use the internet ! Now we have them on our phones and desktop computers can come with touch screen features. I never thought I would find myself saying " you know.. back in my day..."  I'm starting to sound like a ancient grandma ! Lol

 

I was so excited my girl ,Sharon was down for some fun creative colours . She allowed me to explore my itch for fashion color and style .  I've been itching to do some fun creative work. It takes many hours or work to perfect it. This job took me 5 hours but the results is tottaly worth it.    

Hope you all have a beautiful weekend. Vancouver has been rainy and random spots of sunlight but I am just glad the snow storm is over. As beautiful as it is, I prefer having a easy commute!

Wedding, Honeymoon,Christmas, Home Renovation... I CAN FINALLY RELAX NOW...

Wow its been forever since I wrote a blog, Actually... I even forgot I had this blog until I randomly decided it was time to give my website some spice again . So here is my update since my last blog on being engaged.
   SOOOoo... right before my wedding I had gone to asia with my family.  My fiancé and I at the time had been walking around this wedding Plaza in hong kong and decided to take some pre wedding pictures in asia. Why not! Here is a couple of pictures from our shoot:

On to the next... it can`t be a wedding with out celebrating my bachelorette with my girls... New York we go!
        I grew up with these girls since I was in elementary school and high school. They have def seen me at my worst and at my best! That's what best friends are for right :)

The wedding was getting closer and closer ... I didn`t realize there was so many events . In Chinese Tradition we have something called `Passing of the dowry 'where the groom brings a roasted pig and gifts to the bride`s family.

During this crazy time ... My baby Niece Megan was born !!! Welcome to the world my beautiful Neice

My sister +bridemaids + parents planned my bridal shower at Neverland Tea Salon. It was the best bridal shower I could ever imagine !!

We had decided to book our Videographer and Photographer with Sowedding Productions for our wedding. The team was great to work with. The package also came with Prewedding pictures-YAY!

Everything def felt like a fairy tale ...

AND SO the wedding planning continues... I am selling all my wedding items, so if you know anyone that is interested PLEASE feel free to contact me through text,facebook, Instagram.

Creating this piece for the entrance took so much work and ended up costing me quite a bit but the look was so worth it.

Glue guns were def my best friend.  From painting the branches to putting everything together.

These wedding favors took forever to put together, thank god I had the wedding party to help me near the end.. I was really starting to stress at this point. lol

luckily for me my co worker at Vancity knows how to make cakes. So she helped us with creating our beautiful wedding Cake.  It was SO MUCH WORK I was drained each time we worked on it

The very next day we cleaned up as much as we could and went off on our honeymoon .   If there is one advice I could offer, I would suggest to wait a couple more days before you leave for your honeymoon.I wish I had more time to spend with our family and friends before we left so sudden but non the less, everything worked out . 
       I have so much to update ... I will have to save our honeymoon trip, renovations and of course hair tips for my next blog !! Good night everyone !


 

Engagement mode...

I am truly sorry for all the late responds. I have been overwhelmed with  a ton of DIY projects for our Engagement Party we had this Easter weekend.  Happy to say that everything went Great. I will be taking in all my clients the next 2 weeks than I will be off to the beautiful California for a week with the fiance.  I will be away from 26,2015 to May 3, 2015 and I won't be able to responding to messages until  after May 4,2015. So during that time please bare with me =)

BOX DYE OR DYED RED HAIR

 What is so bad about box dye?
           The chemical in the box dyes is very strong which can dry out your hair.  I especially NEVER recommend box Dying your hair any dark tones or dying your hair any reds especially if you do plan on going lighter in the future.

I dyed my hair  black and I want to go Blonde.
I get this a whole lot.. The reality is that it is not going to happen over night. From my experience it is really rare for the color to go blonde all in one sitting. Once you dye your hair black you may not see it but underneath your hair color there is a lot of stained reddish tones hidden from that Box dye you used 5 months ago. I can always tell when someone has box dyed or color'd their hair red in the past.  How? Because once I  apply lighter on the hair it will either lift to a  stage 4 (red-Orange)  or to a level 10 ( Pale yellow) . If you have  box dye or dyed any red tones it will tend to stay at a red orange stage where as for  virgin hair it will automatically go to a level 10 (Pale Yellow tone)  easily.
         I always recommend  to cocktail lighten your hair and wait a months or two after to redo it another time. The longer you wait the healthier your hair gets and you definitely should use some sort of professional hair mask/ serum on your hair.  My personal favorite hair mask is Macadamia Natural Oil Deep Repair Masque or Moroccanoil-intense hydrating mask.

How often should I wash my hair ?
         The less you wash your hair the healthier your hair will get from its naturual oil. I used to be one of the girls that NEEDED to wash my hair every day but all honesty you have to trained yourself to wash it every other day .I notice a huge difference with the health of my hair Especially with the blonde I have in my hair.

It is funny when I think back to the high school days when us girls would always wonder who would be first to get married.   Years later we finally have our answer =D ( I love it ) .Congratulation to a wonderful couple Annie and David. The very first ones in our groupie to get married. I couldn't be any more happier for them. I had such a great time at their wedding. Hands down best Buffet food I ever had at a wedding.

Back to the topic of Hair ... My client wasn't too happy with her past ombre done else where so we decided to darken the base to a color closer to her natural color and I added a few more darker peices and lighten the blonde.

I got my tattoo yesterday =)

I got my tattoo done by Jessie from Blackwater tattoo yesterday.  I showed him a picture of what i wanted and told him to add a lil more fun to it while keeping it simple . The end result.... I LOVE IT !
           A lot of people have been asking me if it hurt. I had one on my ankle before and that one hurt a lot more but this time around it wasn't as bad. It was more simple and didn't take as long so that's probably why as well.  =)

HAPPY LONG WEEKEND =D

 YAY it is getting nice out! I love it when the sun's out I wish it was mexico weather all year round here in Vancouver. Lucky for me,  I have lots of beautiful hair to work with this long weekend. So I'll start with Shantle's hair :

Shantle's old hair color had some red pigment in it from having a reddish brown base before.  For those that don't know Red can be a hard color to come out of the hair.

Zoey had dyed her hair dark but realized quickly that it was a bit too dark for summer. So she decided she wanted an ashy subtle Ombre and that* is what we did =D

We added some subtle highlights  and blended it into the ombre. This Whole process took me 5 hours to get it perfect.

This subtle ombre took about 2 .5-3 hours.

You get what you pay for !

You really do pay for what you get. I take a lot of time and effort to make all my clients hair look gorgeous.Experience makes all the difference. It's better to spend that extra $$$ and make sure the stylist isn't doing a half fast job or letting you leave the salon looking like you just did your own hair.

LIGHTING CAN PLAY A BIG PART FOR HAIR COLOR IN A PICTURE

What a lot of people dont understand that hair color looks different in different lighting and it can make ALL the difference. A lot of my clients hate the color red but you need to understand that when the light hits it there will always be some sort of red. I think my inspiration Guy Tang says it best :

I find it very fusturating finding the perfect lighting. Sometimes I admit I have to edit the color to what I think looks more like indoor hair color. But it is better now with the iphone.  =D

This is my verison of it. Yesterday I did a Mocha brown hair color.  It looks more like the indoor color but outdoors with the sun shining right on it.. The base color appears a lot more of a red brown.

 It's been a busy last couple weeks but i enjoy the fun and challenges =). I have been doing a lot of ombre hair lately.  I will post the most updated one tomorrow =)
